Chester Bennington, Linkin Park lead vocalist died on July 20 in his
private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County. His
death was confirmed by the coroner and is being treated as a suspected suicide.
TMZ broke the news that Bennington committed suicide by
hanging himself.
Apparently, Bennington was alone when he died as his family
was out of town. It was an employee who found his body approximately 9am
Thursday.
Bennington, who was 41 years old, joined Linkin' Park in
1999 and became a household name the year after with the release of the band’s
debut album Hybrid Theory - nominated for a Grammy award for best rock
album. The band's second album,
"Meteora," was one of the biggest alternative albums in music
history. Bennington was also lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots from 2013
to 2015 and made small appearances in the films Crank and Saw 3D.
In past interviews, Bennington has spoken candidly about his
struggles with drugs and alcohol and shared blaming his abusive childhood for
his addictions.
Bennington, who was only 41 years old, is survived by six
children, Jaime, Isaiah, Draven, Tyler Lee and twins Lily and Lila, and his
wife Talinda Ann Bentley.
Bennington was very close with Chris Cornell, who also committed suicide by hanging in May this year. Today would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday.
